Two years into pioneering RSS assessments, Fishta has launched its product line featuring 100% traceable and locally sourced seafood. Their target is for at least 20% of their wild-caught seafood to come from direct, sustainable sources.
In pursuit of its vision of a trustworthy, affordable, and environmentally and socially responsive Philippine brand, Fishta Seafood Inc. successfully adopted the Responsible Seafood Sourcing (RSS) Standard. Through its years-long partnership with USAID, through the Fish Right and Better Seafood Philippines programs, the company has since implemented procurement strategies to improve sustainability and traceability of its products, and has built networks with fishing communities championing environmental responsibility. In mid-2023, Fishta launched with Robinsons Retail supermarket a new product line branded as “100% Traceable and Locally Sourced” for both wild-caught and farmed seafood as further demonstration of its commitment to build integrity and reliability of products with local origins.
Fishta Seafood is now gearing up to pilot its very first RSS-approved supply chain with an end-to-end traceability. It is ambitiously targeting 20% of its wild-caught seafood to come from direct, more responsible sources in 2024 to ensure greater income for fish producers while protecting ocean health. In 2023, Fishta surpassed its annual target, with over 10% of its supply sourced from environmentally sustainable and fully traceable origins.
Starting with a simple idea of providing “Fish for the Filipino” fifteen years ago, the company has now built a reliable network of farms and fishing communities that put quality and sustainability first. Its wide range of market channels – spanning leading supermarkets nationwide, to weekend markets and households in urban centers – is making responsibly sourced seafood accessible to all.
